Rialto, California — Four members of a Southern California family died in a tragic freeway car crash on December 15, with the sole survivor, a 5-year-old boy, left fighting for his life. The fatal crash occurred on the eastbound 10 Freeway near Riverside Avenue in Rialto at approximately 4:45 p.m. The Toyota Camry carrying the family veered off the road, struck a tree stump, and caught fire.
Edgar Rodriguez, 35; Ramiro Rodriguez, 60; Maria Benitez Ramos, 62; and Melinda Perez, 44, died at the scene. The child, Nathaniel Rodriguez, suffered severe injuries, including burns covering half his body, a brain bleed, and a fractured femur. Due to the severity of his injuries, both of Nathaniel’s arms had to be amputated, and he remains on a ventilator.
The community has rallied around Nathaniel, with over $34,000 raised through an online fundraiser to support his medical costs and recovery. Nathaniel will face months in the burn unit, with extensive surgeries ahead, including skin treatments, physical therapy, and the creation of bioprosthetic arms. His long road to recovery will be difficult, but he is showing signs of progress.
Our hearts go out to Nathaniel and his family during this challenging time. Every donation will support Nathaniel on his long road to recovery.
Authorities urge anyone with information on the crash to contact the CHP’s San Bernardino office at (909) 383-4227.
