Head Injury Claims Life of 8-Year-Old at Arizona Resort

Arizona — A tragic incident occurred at the Arizona Biltmore Resort on November 27, when an 8-year-old boy died after being struck by a falling statue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the child suffered a severe head injury when one of the resort’s outdoor statues fell on him around 8:45 a.m. The boy was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries the following day. His identity has not been released.

The incident is still under investigation, with authorities uncertain as to why the statue fell or how the child was struck. Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller confirmed that the statue, part of a collection designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Alfonso Ianelli in 1914, was made of concrete. The pieces were gifted to the resort in 1985.

The Arizona Biltmore opened in 1929 and expressed their condolences, emphasizing their commitment to guest safety. “Our thoughts are with the family impacted by today’s events,” the resort said.

This devastating accident highlights the potential dangers in public spaces, particularly for families visiting historic locations. Our hearts go out to the grieving family during this challenging time.
