Serious Car Crashes Can Cause Traumatic Brain Injuries

High-speed motor vehicle collisions are among the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) in California. A traumatic brain injury can occur when a sudden impact or violent movement causes the brain to strike the inside of the skull.

Victims involved in severe crashes may suffer:

  • Concussions
  • Brain bleeding
  • Skull fractures
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Memory problems
  • Permanent neurological damage

Some symptoms may not appear immediately, making prompt medical evaluation critical after any serious crash.

Signs of a Possible Brain Injury After a Car Accident

Following a major collision, individuals should seek immediate medical attention if they experience:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Persistent headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Memory loss
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Difficulty concentrating

Early diagnosis and treatment can play an important role in recovery following a traumatic brain injury.
