Bicyclist Dies from Moderate Head Injury in Irvine Incident

Irvine, California — A 61-year-old bicyclist has died from injuries sustained in a traffic collision earlier this month, according to the Irvine Police Department.

The accident occurred on August 1 at approximately 1:20 p.m. on MacArthur Boulevard over the 405 Freeway. Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim, later identified as Scott Andrew Morris, suffering from a moderate head injury after colliding with a passing vehicle.

Morris was transported to a nearby hospital by Orange County Fire Authority paramedics, where he remained in critical condition. Despite receiving medical care, Morris succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, weeks after the incident.

The Irvine Police Department’s preliminary investigation revealed that Morris was riding his beach cruiser northbound on MacArthur Boulevard in the number one right-turn lane leading to the I-405 on-ramp. He suddenly veered left into the adjacent lane, colliding with a Chevrolet Suburban.

The impact caused his bicycle’s handlebar to strike the SUV’s front door and mirror, throwing Morris onto the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Suburban stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at (949) 724-7024.
