Chippewa County, Wisconsin — A young boy from Wisconsin recently had an emotional reunion with the first responders who saved his life following a serious tractor accident at an apple orchard. Gabe Mier, who suffered skull fractures and a concussion in the incident, was one of 25 people injured during a school field trip to a fall festival last month.
Firefighter and EMT Haley Hanson recalled the severity of the situation, saying, “You always think that it’s not going to be as big of a deal as it was coming through on the radio, through dispatch. But we got there, and it was everything, you know, and more than they said it was.” Gabe was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.
His mother, Agnie Mier, expressed deep gratitude for the first responders who provided crucial care during the frightening ordeal. She explained how terrifying it was not knowing the extent of her son’s injuries and how helpless they felt. Agnie Mier noted that the responders stepped in when they needed help the most and made a significant difference.
Gabe, who is still recovering and attending school part-time, was reunited with the emergency team and shared a heartfelt moment with those who saved him.
Stories like Gabe’s remind us of the strength of survivors and the dedication of first responders. For TBI survivors, hope and healing are always possible.
