Child in Coma After Jumping from Truck, Sustains Head Injury

Kentucky — A man from Scott County was arrested after allegedly driving drunk while two juveniles jumped from the bed of his moving truck, leaving one child in a coma.

On November 22, Austin Brooks was reportedly drinking with his girlfriend before running out of beer and heading to get more. According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Brooks had his son and nephew in the truck bed when he began driving recklessly on Porter Road near the 136 overpass.

The children reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle, fearing Brooks was heading onto the interstate. One juvenile sustained minor injuries, but the other suffered a severe head injury and is now in a coma.

Brooks continued driving without stopping and is now facing several charges, including wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and leaving the scene of an accident.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving and the potential consequences of such reckless behavior. Our thoughts are with the injured child and their family during this difficult time, hoping for a full recovery.
