Hit-and-Run Crash Leaves Child with Serious Brain Injury

Law enforcement agencies have now identified the child involved in a hit-and-run crash in Coon Rapids on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, a 10-year-old girl named Keira Rose was riding her bicycle on Foley Boulevard, attempting to cross East River Road, when she was struck by a sedan at around noon on June 4. The driver reportedly initially fled the scene, but the department later confirmed that the driver has stopped and is cooperating with investigators.

Initially, the sheriff’s office sought the public’s help in identifying the child. However, by Sunday night, they were able to locate Keira’s family and confirm her identity. Keira remains hospitalized in serious condition, suffering from multiple injuries, including two broken legs, a broken femur, a shifted pelvis, and a brain injury. She is currently dependent on a ventilator for breathing.

The Coon Rapids Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are working together to investigate the incident. The hit-and-run nature of the crash has added complexity to the case, as authorities aim to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

In response to the hit-and-run brain injury incident, a GoFundMe campaign was created a few days later to support Keira and her family. The campaign shared the details of the incident, revealing that Keira was biking to the pool with friends when the collision occurred. Unfortunately, her friends, overwhelmed by fear, left the scene, leading to a seven-hour search to locate Keira’s family and update them on her condition.

The community’s support is crucial during this challenging time. If you wish to contribute and assist Keira in her recovery, consider donating to the GoFundMe page dedicated to her cause. Your generous donations will help cover medical expenses and rehabilitation, and provide much-needed support to Keira and her family as they navigate the difficult road to recovery.
