Young Woman Battles Traumatic Brain Injury

Massachusetts — A 20-year-old Beverly High School alumna is facing a long road to recovery after sustaining a traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures in a ski accident earlier this month. Olivia Merritt was transported to UMass Medical Center, where she underwent life-saving care. Merritt’s injuries, which include fractures to her pelvis, jaw, and facial bones, are complicated by her Type 1 Diabetes.

To assist with mounting medical expenses and rehabilitation costs not covered by insurance, friends and family have launched a GoFundMe campaign.  The page, organized by Merritt’s aunt, Nicole Luongo, aims to raise $100,000 to support Merritt and her family during this difficult time.

The emotional and financial strain on this family is overwhelming,”  said Luongo on the GoFundMe page. She explained that between hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, and lost income, the financial burden is far greater than they can handle alone.

Donations will help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation treatments, and provide financial relief for Merritt’s parents who are now her full-time caregivers. Luongo expressed confidence in Merritt’s resilience, stating that with support, she can make it through this long and challenging road to recovery.

If you are able, please consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign to help Olivia Merritt on her journey to recovery. Our thoughts are with Olivia and her family as they navigate this incredibly challenging and emotional journey. We hope for her full and speedy recovery.
