A devastating incident occurred in a rural hog barn in Fairfax, Minnesota, resulting in the untimely death of a 57-year-old man. Douglas Pomplun, who had previously served as the chief deputy in the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, suffered a severe head injury while working in the barn.
Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene and administered life-saving measures after finding Pomplun on the barn floor. Despite their efforts and his subsequent transportation to an awaiting North Air Care helicopter, Pomplun was tragically pronounced dead before he could be airlifted.
Preliminary investigations into the death in rural Minnesota indicate that Pomplun sustained the injury while repairing panels in the hog barn. The incident took place at approximately 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday in the 48000 block of 660th Avenue in Cairo Township, located about 1-mile northeast of Fairfax.
The Fairfax Ambulance Service, CentraCare Ambulance, North Air Care, and the Fairfax Police Department responded to the scene and provided assistance. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
