Mother Dies from Traumatic Brain Injury in Hit-and-Run

Pomona, California — Friends and family gathered in Pomona on Friday evening for a vigil to honor Carol Fuentes, a mother of six, who died following a hit-and-run crash on July 5. The driver responsible for the incident remains at large.

Carol Fuentes, 57, was returning home from the Morongo Casino when she was involved in a three-car collision at the intersection of Garey and Orange Grove Avenues around 9 p.m.

Police report that the crash was caused by the driver of a Ford Expedition, who fled the scene on foot. Fuentes, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, was among four people hospitalized after the accident. She succumbed to her injuries ten days later.

Alex Fuentes, who organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her funeral expenses, described Carol as a cherished mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend who deeply touched many lives.

Andy Diaz, Carol’s son, shared at the vigil that losing his mother was profoundly hard because she was the foundation of their family, bringing love and joy to everyone.

Anyone with information about this collision is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department’s Traffic Services Bureau at (909) 802-7741 or (909) 620-2048. Donations to support the Fuentes family can be made through the GoFundMe campaign.
