Roller Coaster Claim: Fatal Brain Injury Lawsuit Filed

Los Angeles, California — A lawsuit alleges a California man suffered a fatal brain injury following a ride on the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Christopher Hawley, 22, a recent San Diego State University graduate, experienced the incident on June 23, 2022, while visiting the Valencia amusement park with family.

According to the legal filing, Hawley, his brother, and a cousin boarded the X2, a ride known for its high speeds and rotating seats. Near the ride’s conclusion, an abrupt and violent stop occurred, jarring the passengers. Subsequently, Hawley reported a headache and then lost consciousness.

Medical examination revealed a catastrophic subdural hematoma. The following day, June 24, he died. His parents, Anne and William Hawley, assert he was in excellent health before the ride.

The Hawley family accuses Six Flags Magic Mountain of negligence, defective design, and failing to warn patrons of potential hazards. Their legal team, citing previous incidents of injuries on the X2, seeks $10 million in damages. A trial is scheduled for October 13.
