Teen in Coma After Severe Brain Injury from Car Surfing

Magna, Utah — A 15-year-old girl is in a medically induced coma following a severe brain injury sustained in a car surfing accident. Ava Broadhead, a sophomore at Cyprus High School, was critically injured on Wednesday, Sept. 11, after falling from the roof of a moving vehicle at Magna Regional Park, according to the Unified Police Department.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. when Ava and friends engaged in the dangerous activity of car surfing, a growing trend among teens. The group had originally planned to participate in their school’s homecoming parade, which was canceled due to poor air quality. Sergeant Aymee Race of the Unified Police Department reported that Ava suffered a serious brain injury upon striking the pavement.

Kandis George, Ava’s mother, expressed her devastation, stating, “She had an extreme brain injury, and she needed to be rushed into brain surgery, and it was a life-or-death surgery.” Ava is currently in a medically induced coma to stabilize her condition and allow her brain to heal.

A GoFundMe page has been established to support Ava’s family during this difficult time. Donations are crucial as Ava faces an extensive recovery process. Our thoughts are with her family during this challenging journey, and we encourage those able to offer their support.
