Tulare Student Hospitalized with Traumatic Brain Injury

Sacramento, California — Emily Meneses, a Tulare native and Sacramento State student, is recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) following a serious electric scooter accident last week.

The 19-year-old sustained a skull fracture and brain bleed after colliding with a parked car while riding home from work in Sacramento. Her family, now by her side in the hospital, is fundraising to cover mounting medical costs.

Nina Sanchez, Emily’s sister, described the terrifying moment the family learned of the accident. “We thought we were going to lose her. Very scary, a lot of crying, a lot of panic,” she said. The accident occurred just minutes away from Emily’s home. Fortunately, her roommate had been tracking her location and quickly realized something was wrong when she stopped moving.

Emily, who is studying speech pathology at Sacramento State, faces a long road to recovery. While her doctors are optimistic, they emphasize the challenges ahead. Her mother, a farmworker and single parent, has stopped working to stay by her daughter’s side.

To support the family during this challenging time, Sanchez has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses. Please consider donating to help ease their burden. We wish Emily a swift recovery as she faces this difficult period.
